Whitehorse Chloe graced Melbourne’s café scene over 11 months ago, and since then has galloped on to become a hotspot of Box Hill. Located in the front of the 5 star luxury hotel, Chen, on Whitehorse Road, this fresh open space offers the best of both worlds: a casual spot for everyday coffee hits, as well as a venue for high end fine dining. Being located in the City of Whitehorse, the venue pays tribute to the local community, both in its name and menu theme. Over recent years, Box Hill has seen a steady Asian migration to the area, and Whitehorse Chloe pays homage to traditional Asian flavours in its menu. A stand out dish is the Smokey Croissant Benedict with apple hollandaise, which is served with apple tree bark under a dome smoked. Another Aussie breakfast with Asian twist, is the Chicken Burger coated with shredded shin Ramen noodles. Chefs here offer visitors a menu that allows for the exploration of the Australian palate, with an Asian twist.
The venue itself is dominated by clean white features, reflective of the owners attempt to create a fresh and happy space. Bamboo is used as a centrepiece in the venue, which is thought to bring luck and prosperity, while a water fountain beside the espresso machine aspires to bring peace and calmness to the large open area.
Speaking of coffee, beans are sourced from Reverence Coffee Roasters, with the Lion Tamer Blend for milk based coffee, and rotating singles for black coffee. I enjoyed a naturally processed Rwandan Kayumbu. Its rich red berry tones won me over, backed up by its jammy body. Paired with a cheeky espresso martini made especially by café manager, Tiya, these coffee offerings left me both caffeinated, and satisfied.
You can find Whitehorse Chloe at the base of boutique hotel, The Chen. Just look for the Horse Mural at the entrance. Open 7 days a week, and for dinners Monday to Thursday evenings.
